Missed the reunion and all the fun and glad-handing as well. Thought I'd pass along the news that most of the hurricanes that have passed by recently (with more to come apparently)have only caused minor damage and all is well. Got to play golf in high winds and later in soggy fairways. All's well that ends well so I consider it all in a days experience. Y'all come on down and enjoy the scenery now that so many trees have gone.

Greetings to all who may remember me. I joined in '63 as a Green Monster with 24 Platoon Apprentic Coy, and over the next 38 years I enjoyed the hell out of all my postings. These included Calgary, Germany (13 years), Shilo (6 years), Gagetown, Petawawa, Ottawa (DLESS), UNDOF (the Golan, 1 year) and of course, MTD Borden (6 years). It was a highly satisfying career and I managed to hook up with the Reserves when I retired in '01. Since then I've served two years with 723 Comm Sqn as 2 I/C Sp Tp, and just this past week I've been called back to serve for as long as I like, given that the CRA rule has been changed to age 60. Life is good, and about to get better once I'm back into uniform again. BTW, I'm still wearing the EME hatbadge and accoutrements despite serving with a Jimmy outfit. I wouldn't have it any other way! Regards, Eric Lusk

Greetings to all my old comrads. In June of this year, at age 71, I was "drafted" back into the Army. The RSM of 2 CER at Petawawa asked me to take part in a change of comand parade. He wanted me to bring my fully restored 1946 Jeep to be used to drive the outgoing CO off the parade square. Back in the 1970s I was the Maint NCO in that unit. I still had my Dress Blues, so that is what I wore. It was a great parade and a lot of fun for me. They just could not do without the services of RCEME. We are still needed.

Guys, an ex colleage of mine has just sent me a synopsis for his forthcoming book. Its called AMONGST THE MARINES and will be available from www.amazon.ca after 1st Oct 04. The Synopsis is: Amongst the Marines is Steven Preece's first-hand account of his time as an elite Royal Marine Commando. He delivers an unflinching depiction of the often shocking lifestyle of the Marines, from foul practical jokes and rough justice to the off-duty orgies of drink, sex and violence, and explains the impact this had on his own behaviour. Preece earned the coveted Green Beret when he was 18 and soon discovered that violence in the Marines was not limited to the battlefield but a continual part of a culture of bullying and aggression. It did not take long for him to be accepted into this culture and to adopt it as his own. On duty he was fit, committed and loyal, while off duty he displayed a mammoth capacity for drinking, fighting and womanising. His risk-taking eventually led him to be court-martialled, though he was finally acquitted.

If any one is interested please send me a resume. Also I just returned from N.S. where they are issuing Veteran Lic plates. I would ask that all veterans write there MLA or the Premier and ask why Alberta does not do this. Ralph's E mail address is premier@gov.ab.ca

Great website. I wanted to learn more about RCEME as my grandfather Charlie SNOW was in WWII, Korea, peacekeeping missions and retired as a Sgt in 1972. Like many veterans he never spoke about his experiences. He is now 85 years old and in failing health however his spirit is still strong. He wears his 13 medals proudly and it is this man that has influenced me in becoming a police officer. He currently resides in Cobden, ON and is a member of the Renfrew Legion for anyone who was curious as to his whereabouts.

I was in for about 6 years, from 1980 to 1986... CFB Gagetown, Base Maintenance, and spent time in Recovery, and B9...and was passed by for promotion and courses all the time...Nonetheless, my stay at CFB Gagetown generated many many friends and comrads that have lasted through out my life! 6th June is the anniversary of the Normandy day landings. I am an ex Army Apprentice from Arborfield intake 1955A in the UK. Do you know if the R.C.E.M.E are planing anything here in Nova Scotia? During my career with R.E.M.E. I obtained my first class trade & education certificates as a mechanic vehicle & plant VMA1 (Tanks). In 1958 I served with 16 Inf. Workshops. Minden B.A.O.R. and with the L.A.D attached Royal Horse Guards, Herford also the Tenth Hussars in, Paderborn working on centurion tanks and supporting vehicles. I finally left the army in 1966 while attached to Queen's Own Highlanders L.A.D., after 12 years of service. Demobed in Germany in 1966 I continued work as a mechanic for a Volkswagen firm in Wilhelmshaven West Germany. Returning to England in 1969 where I worked in a garage repairing Standard Triumph and Jaguars. Eventually I immigrated to Canada in 1970, took an exam as an Industrial Mechanic Millwright and worked in industry until I joined the Canadian Coast Guard becoming a Marine Engineering Officer in 1980. I sailed on Ice Breakers in the Arctic and worked as a Project officer writing repair specifications for the Maritime Fleet Rescue craft in Dartmouth. I am now retired and live in Greenfield. This is a useful page. I made a trip to Borden two years ago with the express purpose of going to the EME School and visiting the Kit Shop. Borden is like a morgue compared to the busy base that it used to be. I was especially surprised to see that the dependents high school was now a military language school and that the dependents public school on the Air Force side of the base (pre-integration) was now part of the EME School. (Hopefully they wont recreate the old division we had on RCEME where there were tradesmen in RCEME who had to undergo the rigours of the nitpicking discips, who had the high rank and the RCEME badge but were only GMT types and could fix their own cars or machine a basic punch in the shops. Does the EME Mess Kit resemble the REME one in colour as the REME one is basic engineering dark blue? Cheers Capt L Sales CD (retd) Kuwait City, Kuwait

I'd love to make contact with anyone out there who was on the Basic Military Training Course conducted sometime between February 8th, 1956 and whatever date it finished. A copy of the course photo would be greatly appreciated. I don't seem to have one.

Kind regards to all in the RCEME/EME world. Finally getting around to sign the guessbook. Thanks to Yves Pedneault who I had met while shopping at Home Depot and reminded me of the existence of the database. I took the time to read all comments of those who have signed in and it's just great to see that we have so many people out there. Some left the Forces many years ago and this is a great mean to remember many friends and a great opportunity to touch base with them. Next reunion will be an excellent chance to see and chat with a lot of them as well. Meanwhile, stay healthy and enjoy life. I will be contacting quite a few by e-mail. ARTE ET MARTE.
